About “Standard Issue” the Musical:
Compelled by his wealthy father’s will to join the Army, a resentful, strong-willed Charles Vanderwall believes it is a waste of his time. His plans to ‘mind his own business’ are disrupted by the provocation of another recruit, Diego Romero, who challenges Vanderwall’s core beliefs and accuses him of hiding from reality in his journals. The intense physical and mental exercises ahead promise to forge body and mind alike, creating close friends from former enemies. However, deployment looms, forcing the new soldiers to face demons, both inside and out. Will Vanderwall find the strength to endure and discover who he really is? Or will his story be forever lost?

This original musical was written by Army Veteran and wife team, Henry and Deanna Deiters, directed by Navy Veteran, Tim Robinson, with musical orchestrations and conducting by Derek M. Hamblin. All artists involved in this musical from creation to performance are living and working in Southern Illinois. Come out and enjoy a night of storytelling and great music!
